GM Voices’ Sound Living is Moving to a New Beat

If you visit GM Voices between now and April, you’ll notice a lot of people walking around. Even if they’re talking to someone, their feet are moving in place. The reason for this sudden interest in walking as much as humanly possible is due to the current Sound Living (what we call our wellness program) challenge we have going on until April 15th. We’re encouraging our staff to be more active so our participants are competing for the coveted title of “highest number of steps” over a two-and-a-half month period.

Instead of having everyone count steps in their heads (it would be amusing, but extremely difficult), they’re using a Fitbit device. Mostly everyone can agree they’re attached to these devices (seriously though, they clip onto waistbands). We want this competition to be the motivation people need to adopt or maintain active lifestyles. If that means parking a little further, going the long way to your coworker’s office, or working out for about 30 minutes, each step makes a difference.

To make the challenge even more interesting, we’ve come up with Bonus Weeks. Participants don’t know when these will occur or what they’ll require, but they’ll be related to improving mental or physical health. If completed, each Bonus Week can be redeemed for a certain number of steps. It’s extremely helpful if you have a few days where you’re not as active.

When the winners are revealed in April, we’ll be sure to let you know!
